A most succinct explanation. Those who object to solar fields are more likely NIMBYs than "libtards" (an intellectually bankrupt term). Where I live in WA, we have the opportunity for wind energy. Those who tend to oppose it base their objections on sound and view, which causes me to conclude their objections are NIMBY-related rather than political. The areas of my state that are ripe for wind energy lean Republican in their politics. A central plant is well-suited to nuclear or other technologies, but there's little advantage for solar. Also, a central plant can be controlled, and the owner can raise your electric rates. With solar on the roof, the homeowner is relatively immune to rate increases. I consider myself liberal, but not activist to the point where I'm screaming that everyone must have solar power.
