I would like to install solar power for my home. Approximately how much will the installation cost me?
Are there any professionals whom I can approach for this in Kerala, India?
Based on Canadian dollars, it is estimated at $28,000, according to the Home Depot installation estimate. And given these numbers, it will take about 15 years until you actually start `making` money. See the website attached for a basic calculation that you can use to help estimate the breakdown of costs and when solar panels become profitable.
Solar power for generating electricity tends to be very expensive - the payback time is usually in the order to 20 years (although with rising energy prices this may be slipping). Heating water with solar power can be very cost effective: in Africa we used to make out own solar collectors (take a few pipes and suspend them above a sheet of corrugated iron - and you can use the heat to move the water round the system). Purpose built solar collectors are far more efficient (especially if there is less sun than in africa) and the payback time is significantly shorter (5-6 years) - as well as reducing your demand for electricity and other expensive energy sources.

Installation cost of Solar Power System is high, nearly $3 per watt, generation cost of PV system is very low. To design and install 1KW of Solar Power, you may have to spend some $3000. You may put all the lighting and fans of a small home, on a solar system of this size. Another suggestion, to curtail the cost may be, reduce the back-up time from conventional 7 days back up to 24 hors or 48 hours may also help.
You may locate a Solar Technologist in Kerala, I hope you will find people having know-how of this simple technology.

I am not sure about india, but in the US the cost would run around $20,000 for a full system and batteries for the average home, but you can get a few thousand back in rebates and government programs.

it depends on schemes and how much applines gonna be used with the energy…..
it starts from 20,000………….

Unfortunately I can only answer for cost in the US, but here you would be looking at $30,000 for installation. Which you really can recoup as time goes by. You can find more information on Solar power on the Sungate Energy Soltions website

solar panel prices have recently experienced significant drop, for instance the price of a typical five-kilowatt rooftop solar system has dropped from $22,000 to $16,000 in the 2009, and by the end of 2010 the price could drop even further to $12,000.

The cost of a solar power system varies with size and if its grid feed or off grid with batteries. A grid feed system is cheaper. Solar panels prices seem to be most competitive between 80 watts and 180 watts. Multiple panels can be installed in series or parallel. A grid inverter connects the solar panels into the mains grid. You will need a 2 way energy meter. When you feed energy into the grid you can earn money.
